  • من الأباء المدافعين عن إيمان الكيسة ضد الهرطقة الآريوسية التي أنكرت ألوهية السيد المسيح. - نفي 5 مرات عن كرسيه (جملتها 17 عاما) بسبب مواجهنه للآريوسين ومساندة الإمبراطور لهم - استمر على كرسيه 54 عام حتى تنيح - تم الاعتراف به كقديس من الكنيسة الكاثوليكية مؤخرا بعد الكنائس الأرثوذكسية الشرقية وخاصة الكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية - أعلنته الكنيسة الكاثوليكية في روما أحد علماء الكنيسة الـ 33، ويعتبر أحد الآباء الأربعة الأعظم لدى الكنائس الشرقية ،وهو أب الكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية ومعلمها الإيماني الأول
